Thumbs Up for Pedicabbing With Mayor Ed Lee

Cabrio Taxi Pedicabber Jordan represented the SF Pedicab Community at the Jefferson Street re-opening last week. Jefferson Street, on Fisherman's Wharf between Hyde and Jones, has been closed for construction for the past several months to make it more safe and pedestrian friendly. There is now more sidewalk space, the street is two ways, and the pedestrian crossings are more reliable and quick. These updates will benefit visitors for the America's Cup as well as the millions of tourists who visit San Francisco each year. For pedicab drivers, the improved street area means more safety and more fun - less fighting with traffic = happier drivers and passengers.

Bikes, segways, scooters, and several other forms of transportation turned out for the opening parade. Jordan had a chance to chat with the mayor, and as it turns out, Mayor Ed Lee - "Loves pedicabs!"

Cabrio loves you, too, Mayor Lee. Come get a pedicab ride from us anytime.

Mission Accomplished! Victorious Team Cabrio Completes 2013 AIDS/Lifecycle

done.jpg

ALC Riders brought the total number of miles ridden to an incredible 20 million this year! The hills of California didn't seem all that tough to pedicabbers Mike Oliva, Micah Davis, Peter Lugo, Mimosa Andre, and Geoff Abraham, after pedicabbing the streets of San Francisco on a regular basis for the past few years. Even Melissa Oliva, Mike's wife who talked the team into forming, felt like she was trained and ready to take on the ride for the second year in a row.

Together, the team raised over $35,000 to support the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center. The ride was an amazing experience - challenging, team building, eye opening, and just plain fun.

Team Cabrio plans to return to the ALC 2014 in full force - bring it on, California! But for now, they would like to thank their generous donors, friends, family, and greater pedicab community for the outpouring of support, love and encouragement they experienced on this journey. They couldn't have done it without you!

The Bay Lights

bay_lights.jpg

http://vimeo.com/58165949 Most of what we hear when folks talk about the Bay Bridge are reports or complaints about traffic, construction and overbudget seismic retrofits. But coming in March, the Bay Bridge will be host to something other than a traffic jam. The Bay Lights is an art installation that melds art and technology and symbolizes the relationship between the two. Made of of 25,000 LED lights installed on various spans of the structure, the grand illumination is set for March 5, though we are lucky enough at Cabrio's shop to see some of the evening dress rehearsals as we have a bird's eye view of the south span of the bridge from our lounge. We are proud to serve as a partner for next week's grand lighting celebration on March 5 at 8:30pm and look forward to seeing you there.

Cabrio Taxi and the Fish

Last week a group of us had the pleasure of being guests of San Francisco's Aquarium of the Bay. Since many of us spend a fair amount of time transporting passengers to Pier 39, it was great to learn more about the facility, where the aquarium is located. The aquarium staff and the fish put on a great show for us. Paired with the expertise of aquarium naturalists, we explored displays and traversed three hundred feet of tunnels through a 700,000 gallon aquarium holding close to 20,000 animals that represent the native populations of the San Francisco Bay. We also made our way through the Aquarium's splash zone where we could reach out and touch some of these fascinating creatures. As we are usually headed in different directions when we're pedicabbing around the wharf, the aquarium photographer also made a remarkable accomplishment when he was able to keep us all in one place and have us pose with one of the aquarium's seven gill sharks without trepidation. We look forward to connecting our customers with this extraordinary place, and thank the Aquarium for this wonderful experience.

San Francisco Wedding Faire at the Ritz

geoff-rickshaw.jpg

Last year, Geoff and I made great strides in working with clients to provide premium pedicab service to couples tying the knot in San Francisco. With such positive feedback, we decided to make our names known in the wedding world by exhibiting at the Modern Luxury Bridal Faire at the Ritz Carlton on January 6th. It was definitely a day to remember. [fancy_images width="200" height="150"] [image title="Geoff" alt="Geoff at the Ritz"]http://cabriotaxi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/geoff-rickshaw.jpg[/image] [image title="Wedding Booth" alt="Cabrio Wedding Exhibit"]http://cabriotaxi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/wedding-booth.jpg[/image] [image title="Stan" alt="Stan at the Ritz"]http://cabriotaxi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Rickshaw-e1357627879929.jpg[/image]

[/fancy_images]

The day started at around 7:00 am in the shop, making sure we had all the pictures, brochures, and materials we needed for the exhibit. I loaded up the car with materials and Geoff rode the recently cleaned pedicab up the crazy hill on California Street to the Ritz. It was a pretty impressive sight. Getting the pedicab into the Ballroom proved to be another challenge, which was meet by Geoff and hotel staff that had to carry the pedicab down some steps.

Once in the Ballroom, we where pleasantly surprised to find out that our space was bigger then expected, and took advantage. During slow times, we where able to give rides inside the Ballroom! It was pretty amazing. We were able to talk to several wedding professionals in the area as well as brides to be looking for a unique way to get around for their wedding. All in all we had a great time and are looking forward to our next wedding fair on January 20th at the Four Seasons - San Francisco Wedding Fair. See you there!

Visit Jutta's blog to find a very detailed recap on the days exhibitors - Wedding Woof
